Puppy Temperament Testing

Puppy Packets

At Positive Puppy, we know that all breeders want to make sure their puppies go to good homes and that each puppy fits in well with the family they go to live with.  We all know that a puppy who fits well with the family is far more likely to stay in that family for its entire life.
We are dedicated to helping that happen by providing
Puppy Packets to any breeder to send home with their puppies.  Our packets provide information on housetraining, the importance of early socialization and education, as well as how to help promote good relationships between puppies and children.  We also provide information on constructive instead of destructive chewing.  We make suggestions on how to survive those first few crucial weeks while providing a nurturing environment.  When a new puppy owner receives this gift from the breeder, they know that their breeder had a deep concern for the welfare of those puppies.

Temperament Testing

What is Temperament Testing?  It is a tool to help determine personality type of each puppy.  It is a tool to help breeders place their puppies in the home best suited for puppy and the new family. It NOT intended to make a judgment about whether a dog is "good" or "bad".
We all know that some puppies are more active or dominant than others.  We also know that there are some people who are more experienced as dog handlers than others.  Many times, we can assist new puppy buyers with selecting their puppy if we have more information about each puppy.
As an example, if puppy A follows more readily than puppy B, we know that puppy A is more likely to come when its called at an older age.  So, placing puppy with A with less experienced handler might be better for that puppy.
If puppy A likes to chase and bite a moving object we know that puppy might be better placed with a family without little children who typically run and incite chasing and biting from the puppy.  This puppy could be more happy with an active family or an owner who may be interested in competitive obedience.
When we Temperament Test, we discover some of these things about puppies.   We suggest testing the litter at exactly 7 weeks of age.  While there are no guarantees about how each puppy will grow up, Temperament Testing can give us some guidance.  Our trained staff will Temperament Test to you at no charge and provide you with written results that you can then give to the new family.  Call us to make an appointment well in advance of the litter's 7 week birthday.  208-578-1565
